Pedro
Level 5 Master Stylist / Artistic Director
Pedro grew up in a barbershop in a little town in Spain. His father was the one that pushed him to get his fundamentals in cutting, through shadowing and sending him to top-notch academies in London, Valencia and Barcelona. Even when it was clear early on that Pedro’s professional goals were far from the family’s salon, his father thought the skill could end up being useful at some point… and he was right!
In 2002 and 2003, Pedro became a licensed HAIR-CRAFTER (never liked hairdresser) in New Jersey and New York. From this point on, it has been a constant rotation of seminars, master classes, conventions here or abroad, and (most importantly) the jobs he has held over the years, for and with great professionals on both sides of the Hudson River, for whom he still holds the deepest respect, admiration, and gratitude for the friendship and mentorship. With these ingredients, he has been able to grow and keep up with the latest trends, techniques, and product line updates. Pedro arrived in Jersey City for the first time around 2006 as a color educator for a leading Italian manufacturer assisting local salons that were working with their color line. Later on, he landed at his first salon/spa in the area as a Master Colorist and haircutting specialist. In 2010, he became the artistic director of an ambitious project based right here in JC. A year later he found himself as the General Manager and Owner of a Salon by the waterfront. Finally, in the late 2016, he got to join the Shampoo JC team: a salon which was always on his radar for the simple affinity that they had regarding concepts and potential. So far, he carries 4 certifications with Sasson London re-visiting cutting fundamentals (it is important to go back to the basics often), 1 color certification, 2 hair shows with XPRESION Creativos Madrid, and intense Zoom activities with Schwarzkopf Spain going through the brand’s new collection and products.
At this point in his career, he is extremely interested in the creative process and future of the trade. Pedro draws inspiration from the arts, architecture, geometry, graphic design, and diversity (especially when they collide). He loves harmony and creating seamless dimension through color. His favorite haircut is brushless and versatile. Pedro’s biggest motivation is a monumental challenge. His greatest satisfaction is to give a complete stranger something new, a fresh start.
